I am incredibly happy that my “birthing companion” commented on your post… ever since we left the maternity ward, my partner and I have been bothered by the fact that we never managed to thank you for all your effort. All we knew about you was that you have a rose tattooed on your wrist and that our Julija wouldn’t have been born so easily without your help.
My due date was May 27, 2015, and due to gestational diabetes, I came to the induction ward that day. As a first-time mother, I was a little scared of what and how… my comfort was the thought that women used to give birth in fields, so there’s no way I wouldn’t succeed in this luxury and with professional help…
A little after midnight (May 28), a nurse “delivered” me to the delivery room, where I met you… a few minutes later, my partner arrived, rushing straight from his night shift. Everything happened quite quickly; I remember telling my partner in between that the worst part of it all was that you had to wipe my faeces.
Your relaxed demeanor, encouraging words, and kindness completely put me at ease, and so, at 3:16 AM, we met our Julija. We called her our little bullet because she was 48 cm long and weighed 3400 g.
With your help, she latched on immediately, and even today, I breastfeed her without any problems. I sincerely thank you… even though I don’t even know your name.
You will always be in our memory, also because of the tattoo.
“Julija, tearful… a rose grows for you too” … thank you once again.
