LET THE CHILD CHOOSE THE WAY

LET THE CHILD CHOOSE THE WAY

In November, the UNICEF Slovenia National Committee for the Promotion of Breastfeeding will publish the book “Let the Child Choose the Way” (click) (originally titled “Baby-Led Weaning”), by authors Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett, which helps mothers when introducing solid foods to their children, as well as all health and other professionals who work with mothers and their toddlers and advise them on child feeding and care.
The book “Let the Child Choose the Way” is a global bestseller that shatters the myth that babies should be spoon-fed, as encouraging a child to feed themselves independently from the very start of weaning is the best foundation for a child’s healthy development. The book presents the most sensible, simple, and enjoyable way to feed a child and helps develop their natural abilities, including hand-eye coordination and chewing. It allows them to join family meals from the very beginning of the weaning process and encourages independence by letting them experiment with food at their own pace. Last but not least, it makes feeding enjoyable, and mealtime battles are less likely. Translation: Assist. Dr. Evgen Benedik, BSc; Review: Dr. Borut Bratanič, MD, Pediatric Specialist, and Prim. Andreja Tekauc Golob, MD, Pediatric Specialist, IBCLC; Proofreading: Anja Miklavčič, Prof. of Slovenian.
