Overprotective parents believe they are acting in their child’s best interest and that they will keep them safe this way. Unfortunately, they deprive them of essential life skills they need for a healthy personality and to cope with life’s challenges. They have LOW SELF-ESTEEM, ARE AFRAID TO TAKE RISKS, and will never do something unfamiliar to them.
The dangers and negative effects of overprotective parents are greater than we think.
– Through their behavior, they unconsciously send the message that the world is not safe. The child then grows into an adult who is afraid to take risks. They will live in their “comfort” zone and won’t dare to step out of it, even if that would mean a better and happier life for them.
– It also affects the child’s self-esteem. The child thinks they are not capable of coping with life, since the parents have been taking on that role. In this way, overprotective parents and parents who overly spoil their children have a negative impact on the child’s self-esteem.
– These children develop into rebels. They may grow into adults who struggle when they need to behave according to rules at school and at work.
LET YOUR CHILD EXPLORE THEIR WORLD WHILE YOU KEEP AN EYE ON THEM AND CAN HELP WHEN THEY ARE IN TROUBLE AND WHEN THEY NEED YOU.
