I hope that my birth experience can at least somewhat encourage and motivate other mothers, that childbirth is, in most cases, a positive event.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Let me start by saying that I didn’t worry too much or think about what could go wrong<\/strong><\/em>, or all the terrible things that could happen during childbirth, and that it would be terribly painful. In fact, I was very relaxed, as I constantly thought, if everyone else can do it, so can I. It was important for me to be familiar with essential information<\/strong><\/em> and to have an approximate idea of what to expect in the delivery room from the testimonies of other mothers. Above all, it seemed very important to me to know what was happening to me during labor itself<\/strong><\/em> (labor phases, contractions, pushing, expulsion). It was also very important for me to know when to go to the hospital, how to recognize true contractions, and not to go too early. Of course, there were also plenty of useful tips: mucus plug detachment, what to take to the hospital, raspberry leaf tea, thanking the midwife, what the partner should do, a bottle with a nipple \ud83d\ude42 etc… <\/p>\n

And of course, because things don’t always go as planned, it happened a little differently for me too. In the evening, I couldn’t fall asleep for a long time, as the little one apparently had a party and was kicking very intensely the whole time. Now it seems to me as if she was getting into position. When I watched television until three in the morning and went to the toilet, I saw that my mucus plug had detached \u2013 a slightly bloody, brownish-colored mucous substance. And of course, I was completely relaxed, thinking, “Oh, that’s nothing, that means I could give birth in two hours or in fourteen days.” The body just starts preparing a little. And of course, I lie back on the couch and watch a bit more TV, and oh, I go read some birth stories online. Then I have to go to the toilet again.<\/strong> <\/em>When I stood up, I felt a few drops had leaked. And of course, I thought again, “Oh, that’s nothing yet.” But I was at least motivated enough to go pack my bag, because of course I hadn’t packed it yet, as I thought I wouldn’t give birth so soon. I pack my bag, take a shower, then lie back on the couch, and when I stand up again, a few more drops. Well, it slowly clicked that this might be it. And I go to the bedroom around half past four in the morning, lie down next to my darling, who asks me how I am, and I say that I think something is happening. Then I lie in bed and feel mild menstrual cramps. When I get up again to go to the toilet, quite a bit of water breaks.<\/strong><\/em> So I knew it was time to go to the hospital. My hopes of breathing through contractions at home until they were so intense every five minutes that I couldn’t speak anymore were dashed. Well, nothing for it, I had a good meal, my darling went to shave, and we slowly and calmly got ready and headed to the hospital. Now, let’s go give birth. <\/p>\n

At 6 AM, two kind nurses greeted me. Together we filled out the paperwork, they examined me, and one of them said I was 2 cm dilated. Then I comfortably settled into delivery room no. 6. Slowly, the pain, in the form of menstrual cramps, began to increase, but nothing too terrible. Around seven, an older midwife took over. A lady with 25 years of experience, kind and understanding. Honestly, lying on my side the whole time suited me best.<\/strong><\/em> I didn’t even feel like getting out of bed. My body trembled throughout the entire birth, like a matchstick on water. When the midwife examined me, she gave me encouraging words, saying that I was 3 cm dilated and that the baby was perfectly positioned, already very low, and that it would go quickly.<\/strong> <\/em>At that moment, encouraging words that this birth would go quickly, as everything looked good, were truly welcome. When I started to feel quite a bit of cramping around nine, the midwife came to check on me again and asked if I wanted any pain relief. I said that I knew the options, but hadn’t really thought about what I would want, because I thought I would give birth over the weekend and that nothing would be available then. She then kindly suggested: everything looks great with you, take the epidural, because the anesthesiologist is available, you will give birth much easier and faster. I said that my darling and I would discuss it and let her know. Then followed a few more major contractions. And of course, if they offer you something to reduce pain during contractions, you don’t think too much and you take it :). Who wants to torture themselves? Well, then the anesthesiologist came, administered everything nicely, and said she would come back in about an hour. It turned out there was no need, because I was already so far along. The epidural really took away the pain, so the contractions were very bearable.<\/strong><\/em> I then breathed through contractions for about an hour. Soon after, the pushing contractions began.<\/strong><\/em> And so, my voice also changed.<\/strong><\/em> The exhale was deeper, and it felt like I needed to poop. You can really feel yourself opening up.<\/strong><\/em> Associations like: opening up like a flower, etc., ran through my head. \ud83d\ude42 . The midwife had the door ajar, and when she heard I was already pushing, she came to encourage me, telling me I was doing great.<\/strong><\/em> Another midwife came in and said, “Oh, you’re very far along,” which motivated me greatly again. The doctor also came in to ask if he could bring a student to the birth itself. The doctor also commented that I was doing excellently and that, from what he could see, I would give birth within an hour. Of course, I agreed about the student.<\/strong> <\/em>I could talk normally between contractions. All the while, it didn’t seem to me that we were so far along and that the baby would be here soon. Especially since the pain was bearable. When the pushing contractions were so advanced, the midwife told me to move from my side to the birthing position. Then we breathed through one pushing contraction, after which she said: let’s go back to the side for five more pushing contractions, and after five, we’ll give birth. And so it was. During the expulsion, another midwife came to help me, on the other side my darling bravely held on, and with six, seven pushes, the baby was out. The expulsion looked just like we practiced in the birthing workshops, for which I am very grateful. Because I had an epidural, I could conserve my strength for pushing, which really means a lot.<\/strong><\/em> When the little one was out, they placed her on me, and my first words were: oh, how beautiful she is\u2026<\/strong><\/em> <\/p>\n

And so, my darling and I received an invaluable treasure, for which we are grateful to all the good fairies, that she is healthy and came into the world so quickly and without complications.<\/p>\n

Perhaps one last thing:<\/p>\n
